Bodrum......

Bodrum is a charming and fascinating little port which throughout history has been known as Halicarnassos in ancient times, it has always been fought over and people have been unwilling to share its beauty with others.

Bodrum is built on a peninsula formed by the meeting of the eastern and western harbors, Bodrum, with its narrow streets winding down to the sea, is famous for its castle, its world-renowned yachts, its shipyards and the dazzling white houses and tombs lining the shores of its two harbors. İt is situated 270 km. south of Izmir, on the Aegean coast of Turkey and just a short ferry ride away from the Greek İsland of Kos.
The inhabitants of Bodrum are around 30,000 and earn their living by fishing, boat-building,agriculture, weaving (the village Mumcular is famous for its carpets, kilims and other weavings) and of course tourism, which has become the most important industry in the last few years.
In recent times Bodrum has become not only a tourist center but also a visiting place for famous Turkish and foreign artists. Bodrum has all the facilities to meet the expectations of tourists from all income levels ranging from the rich yacht owners to the penny counting tourists who just want a reasonable room for their holiday.

The heart of the town is around the harbour, where shops, bars and restaurants line the narrow vine covered streets under the shadow of St Peters Castle. The most lively of the streets being Cumhurriyet Caddesi (Republic Street), much better known as Bar street, which is a pedestrianized showcase of what the town has to offer at any time of the day or night.

Here you can find skilled artisans who will happily make you a pair of snuggly fitting leather sandals in the traditional Aegean style, while small boutiques offering stylish creations inspired by local designs and fabrics.

By night Bar street comes alive, you can find both the fisherman's meyhanes (small eating places featuring a wide range of entrees),pizza parlours,Kebab houses,Lokantas (traditional Turkish food and very inexpensive) and many waterfront restaurants. There are places that play traditional Turkish music called fasıl or places that play rock. For the hardened partygoers you could try the world famous Halicarnassos with its laser displays or the Catamaran where you can party out at sea until the early hours of the morning, so you can see everywhere is full of bars and meyhanes. It is just up to you where you would like to spend your evening.
